Ljubljana

Škocjan Caves
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most dramatic cave systems in the world. Unlike any other cave in Slovenia, Škocjan opens into a series of vast underground canyons — some reaching over 100 metres in height — carved by the Reka River as it disappears beneath the karst landscape. Walking the suspended bridges above the roaring underground river, surrounded by walls of ancient rock rising into darkness, is an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
Piran
Piran is a beautifully preserved historic town and one of the cultural treasures of the Slovenian coast. With its medieval architecture, narrow winding streets leading down to the main square, charming cafés, and Italian-inspired restaurants, it is widely considered one of the most photogenic and picturesque towns on the Adriatic Sea.
Goriška Brda
Tucked along Slovenia's border with Italy, Goriška Brda is the country's most celebrated wine region — a landscape of rolling hills, hilltop villages and sun-drenched vineyards that feels closer to Tuscany than to the alpine Slovenia most visitors imagine. Your route passes through the heart of the region, with time to stop, walk through a village and take in views that stretch across the border into Friuli. The Soča Valley
The Soča River is one of the most visually striking rivers in Europe — its impossibly turquoise water cutting through the limestone gorges of the Julian Alps. This stretch of Slovenia feels wilder and more remote than anywhere else on the journey: alpine peaks rising on either side, waterfalls dropping from the cliffs above. Your route follows the river before climbing the legendary Vršič Pass — fifty hairpin bends winding through the high alpine landscape with views that open wider at every turn.
Lake Bled
Slovenia’s most iconic destination and one of the most photographed alpine lakes in Europe. Surrounded by mountains and crowned by a thousand-year-old castle perched high above the water, Lake Bled looks like something from a fairy tale. The charming lakeside town of Bled is a wonderful place to relax, stroll along the shoreline, and enjoy the beauty of the region in every season.
Lake Bohinj (Optional Excursion)
Slovenia's largest glacial lake sits at the heart of Triglav National Park, surrounded by forested slopes and limestone peaks that reflect in its still, deep-blue water. Unlike Lake Bled, Bohinj has no island, no castle and no crowds — just the lake, the mountains and an unhurried stillness that feels increasingly rare. Velika Planina
A high-altitude shepherd's plateau at 1,500 metres, dotted with dozens of centuries-old wooden huts that have been used by local herders every summer for generations. Questions About This Journey
This journey is designed so that time in the car is never just transit. Every day on the road has a purpose — a stop at a viewpoint, a walk through a village, a cave, a coastal town, a vineyard. Day 6, which moves through Goriška Brda and the Soča Valley to Lake Bled, is one of the most visually rewarding days of the entire journey. Your guide travels with you throughout, turning every drive into part of the experience rather than time between experiences.
This is a comfortable journey suitable for most fitness levels. Škocjan Caves involves walking on uneven terrain and some steps — the exact distance depends on the route taken inside, but comfortable footwear is recommended. Velika Planina is reached by cable car and involves easy walking on the plateau. The Soča Valley stops are leisurely — roadside viewpoints and short walks near the river. No strenuous hiking is required on any day of the itinerary.
Yes, with a few things to consider. Škocjan Caves involves walking on uneven surfaces and is not recommended for very young children or those with mobility difficulties. Velika Planina includes a cable car ride which younger children typically enjoy. The free days in Portorož and at Lake Bled offer plenty of space and flexibility for families. If you are traveling with children, please include their ages in your inquiry so we can advise on the most suitable options.

It covers ground that most visitors to Slovenia never reach: the Logarska Valley, the Soča River gorge, the shepherd plateau of Velika Planina, the wine country of Goriška Brda. And it does so at a pace that allows you to actually see it, rather than simply pass through.
Both are alpine destinations within a day trip from Ljubljana, but they offer very different experiences. Logar Valley (Logarska Dolina) is a long, narrow glacial valley — remote, forested, with waterfalls and mountain peaks on three sides. It is quieter and more immersive in terms of pure alpine nature. Velika Planina is a high-altitude plateau reached by cable car, dotted with traditional shepherd huts that have been used for centuries. It offers panoramic views and a cultural dimension that Logarska does not. If you are drawn to unspoiled natural landscapes, choose Logarska. If you are interested in mountain culture and wider views, choose Velika Planina.
The Vršič Pass is a scenic mountain road with 50 hairpin bends and no technical difficulty for passengers — you are in a comfortable private vehicle with an experienced driver. Most travelers find the drive exhilarating rather than uncomfortable. If you are sensitive to winding roads, let us know in advance and we can plan rest stops along the way. The pass is seasonal and subject to weather conditions — if closed, an alternative scenic route through the Julian Alps will be arranged.
Karst pršut (pronounced "per-shoot") is Slovenia's protected dry-cured ham — similar in style to Italian prosciutto but with a distinct character shaped by the Karst region's strong bora wind and limestone terrain. It carries a European Protected Geographical Indication, meaning it can only be produced in this specific area. The tasting takes place in the coastal region on Day 5, paired with local wine. Exact location is confirmed closer to your travel dates and depends on the best available option at the time.
If you have an interest in unspoiled alpine nature and prefer landscapes without crowds, yes — Lake Bohinj is one of the most quietly beautiful places in Slovenia and feels worlds apart from the more visited Lake Bled. The excursion includes a visit to Bled Castle and a stop at Savica Waterfall, making it a full and varied day. If you prefer a completely free day at Lake Bled — walking the lake, taking a pletna boat to the island, or simply relaxing — that is equally a good use of your final day. There is no wrong answer; it depends on whether you want more activity or more rest.
Yes. Additional nights can be added at any location — an extra night at Lake Bled or Portorož is a popular choice. The itinerary can also be adjusted to include other destinations, or combined with a trip to Croatia, Italy or Austria. If you have specific interests — photography, food, hiking — let us know and we will build the itinerary around them. All customisation requests can be discussed before any commitment is made.
Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) offer the best balance of good weather, manageable crowds and pleasant temperatures for driving and walking. July and August are peak season — the coast and Lake Bled are busier, but the Soča Valley and alpine areas are at their most spectacular. Winter months (November–March) are quieter and more affordable, though the Vršič Pass may be closed and some coastal attractions have reduced hours. The journey works well in any season — the landscapes simply look different.
